World War II music program
      “The Music of World War II” will be the focus of a program scheduled for 6 pm Thursday at the public library in Emporium. Dr. Phillip Atteberry of the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville will present a study of popular songs from the era, tying them in with Americans’ experiences. There is no admission fee.

Teachers earn masters degrees
      Two members of the Coudersport Area High School faculty were recently awarded master’s degrees from Wilkes University. Health and physical education teachers Cheryl Morey and Scott Andrews earned their master of science degrees in education.

Pharmacy school
      Bethany L. Dunsmore of Emporium has begun studies at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine School of Pharmacy. The daughter of Stan and Sandra Dunsmore, Bethany is a student at Gannon University, which has an affiliation with Lake Erie College for an accelerated, 5-year doctor of pharmacy program.

First Presbyterian Church 140th social
     Emporium’s First Presbyterian Church has come up with a sweet way to celebrate the 140 anniversary of its founding. Those who are strolling the streets on Saturday (today) during the Cameron County sesquicentennial parade are encouraged to stop at the corner of Fourth and Walnut streets for the church’s “walking ice cream social.” Serving starts at 11:30.

      Theresa and Bryan Welsh of Coudersport are parents of a son born Aug. 11, 2010, at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital. Rowen Evan Dropbear Welsh weighed 9 pounds, 4 ounces. He joins two brothers, Ken, 19, and Brandon, 17, and a sister, Kerridwen, 6.

Benefit dance Sept. 11
      A benefit dance is being held on Saturday, Sept. 11, for Shelley Slottje at the Cameron County Vets Club from 8 pm until midnight. Cost is $10 for singles and $15 for couples. Proceeds will be used to help defray her medical treatment costs. Tickets will be available at the door. There will be fund-raisers, including a raffle for a largescreen TV.

      Air Force Airman Michael R. Agliardo graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. A 2004 graduate of Cameron County High School, he is the son of Michael and Robin Agliardo of Emporium.

Crandall Hill Old Home Day planned September 12
      Crandall Hill Old Home Day is set for Sunday, Sept. 12 at the Crandall Hill Community Building (former Hebron Grange Hall). Dinner will be served at 1, with a program to follow. The tradition dates to 1938, when a group of neighbors and folks with ties to the Crandall Hill/Hebron area gathered to share a meal and reminisce.

Eulalia Lodge plans lobster fundraiser
      Fresh lobster dinner with all the trimmings, prizes and entertainment are included in the ticket price of $25 during a fund-raising dinner being held by Eulalia Lodge No. 342 at the Coudersport Consistory on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 6 pm. Money that is raised will be used for the Masons’ scholarship fund.
