State police said Donald Bento, 52, was traveling north at 6:40 when his sedan went off the road and struck a utility pole and then the Austin Borough police cruiser, a 2007 Dodge Durango. Bento's car continued for another 50 feet before coming to rest. Bento walked to a nearby house and was treated initially by Emergency Medical Technician Peg Rotello and Police Chief Kyle Day. He was later taken by Austin Ambulance to Cole Memorial Hospital. Each child had a chance to try their luck at panning while their parents looked on. All materials were provided by the GPAA, including soil samples containing small amounts of gold.
