Discovery Weekend Planned

Join the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) State Park Environmental Educators and Guest Presenters for a Discovery Weekend in the Pennsylvania Wilds on Sept. 22 to Sept. 24.

Program is Butterflies, Birds and Dark Skies. You and your family will participate in handson activities that explore the wonder of Migration.

Topics to investigate include monarch butterflies at Sinnemahoning State Park, saw-whet owls, and astronomy at Cherry Springs State Park. Discover how monarch butterflies can travel up to 3,000 miles to migrate, and participate in an ongoing study of their migration.

Discover how scientists study the migration of the sawwhet owl, and participate in saw-whet owl banding, if they are migrating through Cherry Spring State Park. Investigate the night sky at Cherry Springs State Park, names one of USA Today's top ten stargazing locations, where the Milky Way stretches across the sky.

The package with accommodations includes: Fri. and Sat. night accommodations at Frosty Hollow Bed and Breakfast (www.coudy.com/ frostyhollow), picnic lunch on Sat. dinner on Sun., monarch migration and tagging program at Sinnemahoning State Park, saw-whet owl banding and night sky investigation at Cherry Springs State Park, and transportation as well as a picnic lunch on Sat. and dinner on Sun.
