Plenty of opportunities for hunters, trappers this winter
      Even in the snow and cold of winter, hunters and trappers still have opportunities. The statewide late archery and flintlock muzzleloader deer seasons run concurrently from Dec. 26 to Jan. 13. Small game seasons are as follows: squirrel, Dec. 11-23 and Dec. 26-Feb. 3; grouse, Dec. 11-23 and Dec. 26-Jan. 27; rabbit, Dec. 11-23 and Dec. 26-Feb. 3; and snowshoe hare, Dec. 26-Jan. 1.

Area artists, crafters wanted
      Pa. Great Outdoors Visitors Bureau is gathering information on artists and crafters throughout Cameron, Clarion, Forest, Jefferson and Elk County for an artisan development program being created through the Pennsylvania Wilds initiative. The program will emphasize the use of local products, especially wood, and will promote awareness of area artists.

      lived up to its name this year, as judges confirmed a higher proportion of trophy-sized deer among the entries. This was the scene at the Sweden Valley Inn, contest headquarters.

No more SS numbers on licenses
      Applicants for hunting and fishing licenses in Pennsylvania no longer are required to provide their Social Security numbers. Supporters of the new law, which took effect last week, believe it will protect applicants from identity theft.
