Walter Clingan

Walter A. "Stubby" Clingan, 85, of CCC Memorial Highway, died Sunday (July 2, 2006) in his home.

Born Jan. 13, 1921, in Tompson, he was a son of Orrin and Phoebe MacDowell Clingan. On April 5, 1946, in Loyalsock, he married Betty Mae Fries, who survives.

A resident of Cameron County since 1946, Mr. Clingan was a graduate of Uniontown High School and drafting school in Williamsport.

He was employed by GTE Sylvania in Emporium as a draftsman in the Engineering Department, retiring in 1982.

Mr. Clingan coached Little League Baseball for 20 years. He was a member of Sylvania's Quarter Century Club; May Hollow Sportsman's Club in Driftwood; VFW Post 6221 and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 368, both in Emporium; and Emporium Country Club. He also supported the Disabled American Veterans and was a member of its Commanders Club.

Survivors include three sons, Joseph (Connie) Clingan of Driftwood, Wally (Greenie) Clingan of Emporium and Alan (Theresa) Clingan of North Augusta, S.C.; three daughters, Ginny (Daniel) Gray of Gulf Shores, Ala., and Susan (Ronald) Smith and Sharon (Glenn) Lynn, both of North Augusta, S.C.; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Tara; five brothers, Bradford, George, John, Pete and Orrin "Rock"; and six sisters, Lena, Grace, Oriana, Alberta, Phoebe and Margie.

There was no visitation. Funeral and committal services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday (July 5, 2006) in the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gary Atkinson, pastor, officiating.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Coppersmith Condon Funeral Home, Inc.
