Dorothy Reed

Dorothy M. Reed, 88, of Carson Street, died Monday (July 3, 2006) at Guy and Mary Felt Manor.

She was born July 17, 1917, in St. Marys, a daughter of Andy and Helen Eckert. On June 18, 1935, in New York, she married Jerry Reed, who preceded her in death.

She was active in the Emporium Senior Center and was a member of the St. Mark Catholic Church.

Surviving are seven daughters, Dolores Kitchen of Mackeyville, Marie Young, Betty Erich and Helen Dunkle, all of Emporium, Judie Shrubb of Weedville, Lois Dolan of Allentown and Donna Granier of Addis, La.; four sons, Bruce Reed of Ridgefield, Ore., Glenn Reed of Angola, N.Y., and Don "Stretch" Reed and Dave Reed both from Emporium; 45 grandchildren; numerous greatgrandchildren; a sister, Rose Newell of Raleigh, N.C., and two brothers, Romie Buerk of Emporium and Chris Buerk of St. Marys.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Reed Jr.; a daughter, Patty Reed; four brothers; and a sister.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday (July 6, 2006) at St. Mark Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul Siebert as celebrant. Burial was in Newton Cemetery, Emporium.
