Hunter/Trapper Courses The Bucktail Rod and Gun Club is sponsoring a Hunter/ Trapper Education course at the club house in Sizer Run, Monday, July 24 through Friday, July 28 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. This free, five day course is open to the public. Children must be at least 11 years old and must attend all five days to receive a certificate to be eligible to hunt in Pennsylvania. Parents are welcome to attend. No pre-registration is required. Hunter education is rooted in concepts of firearm safety, but has grown to include important training in ethical behavior and showing respect for others and the resource. The program provides instruction in basic techniques plus a host of hunting, trapping and outdoor skills all designed to enhance a new participant's knowledge and enjoyment of wildlife and our hunting and trapping heritage. Pennsylvania's game and wildlife code requires first time hunters and trappers, regardless of age, to attend and successfully complete the training. Course includes the following topics: hunter responsibility and ethics, principles of wildlife management and conservation, firearms and ammunition there handling and safety, wildlife identification, field care of game, specialty areas of bowhunting and muzzeloading, trapping and furtaking, game laws, survival and first aid, and turkey hunting safety. |
