Alle-Catts In Thick Of Title Race Parity has come to the AlleCatt Amateur Baseball League. This year's circuit contains no clear favorite. Emporium finds itself in the thick of the battle for the Eastern Division regular season title, and the local 'Catters have a legitimate shot at capturing the league crown. Strong hitting has been a hallmark of recent Emporium teams, and this year's entry is no exception. In Sunday's 7-5 win over a stubborn Olean AOH squad, Emporium pounded out 14 hits. Kevin Gledhill led the charge with three hits, including a home run and a double. He also drove in a pair of runs. Rick Uber (3 RBI) and Kyle Gledhill also had three hits apiece. Ken Meyer (RBI) and Drew Tompkins (2B) added two hits each. Kyle Gledhill was the winning pitcher, working into the eighth inning before he tired. Gledhill gave up just four hits, but he walked four batters. Relief pitcher Ryan Bresslin surrendered four hits, as well, but was able to finish things off, as Emporium notched its eighth win in 11 games. Local fans can see the AlleCatters in action this Sunday at 2:00 on the Emporium diamond, as they face the Olean Oilers (2-10). Next Sunday, Emporium travels to Port Allegany (2:00). League Standings East: Crosby 9-3, Emporium 8-3, Port Allegany 7-5, Olean AOH 6-5, Olean Oilers 2-10 West: Kane 8-3, Nic-L-Inn 65, Warren 5-5, Mt. Jewett 5-7, Ludlow 0-10. |
