Sportsmen Discuss NRA, Chemical Spill The officers and Directors of the Sinnemahoning Sportsmen's Assn. met on July 16 and decided to contribute $3000 to the National Rifle Assn. and to charge fifty cents per member for future, annual contributions. In other business, it was noted that hunter/trapper education classes will be July 29 and July 30, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All first time hunters must attend both days. Students should report a little early on July 29 to register. Lunch will be provided for students. Ed Spath, one of the instructors, was introduced at this meeting. The other instructors will be Bryan Anstead and Denny Merrow. The student must nor be younger than 11 years of age. The classes will be held at the large pavilion near the club. Vice President, Paul Fallecker was presented a life membership to the SSA for his 20 years of dedicated service and work for the betterment of the organization. Paul is not running for any elected position at this club this year. He will stay active in the organization with out being an elected official. Election of officers and Directors will be Aug. 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Active members will be allowed to vote. Ray Savel requested that all members and members of other organizations that are interested in improving the area environmentally, to attend the save the Quehanna Wild Area Rally Aug. 12 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Marion brooks Monument near Mile Marker 10 in the Wild Area. The recent train derailment in Gardeau, McKean county is a complete disaster for all aquatic life in Big Fill Run, Portage Creek and the Driftwood branch of the Sinnemahoning river for miles in parts of McKean and Cameron counties. SSA will join in on any class action lawsuit that is filed against the carrier that is responsible. SSA feels that the sportsmen should not have to fund any of the clean up of these streams and the work to get all aquatic life back in the streams. The SSA is willing to assist the Pennsylvania Fish and boat Commission and the Pennsylvania Department of environmental Protection in getting evidence that is needed for a quick settlement on this issue as well. SSA would urge anyone that has any evidence to contact these two agencies. |
