Going Deep...
with Mike Bauer

With the second place finish in the State Tournament it marks the best finish ever for the 15-16 year old stars from Cameron County. This team never gave up and was down to their last out several times and bounced back like champions that they are. Through the district playoffs, the sectional tourney and the state tourney this team was resilient. This group of kids had something special that only comes along once in a blue moon when you're in a rural area as we are.

The Coaches cannot be forgotten either. For those of you who might not know they volunteer their time with these kids. No pay, using vacation from work, and giving up family time is all part of a Little League coaches duty. It takes a special person to give these kids an opportunity to shine and shine they did. The next time you see Dave Lyon, Rob Crane and Jamer Cooney on the street give these guys a pat on the back because they did a whale of a job.

The parents down the right field fence, who not only watched their sons play, but worked in the concession stand when they weren't, should be applauded for their time and effort they gave to make this just one unbelievable event.

Glen Fiebig and his crew Mike Newhouse, Bryan Harford and Trish Strahl all made the Cameron County Little League Complex look like second to none. Every coach from the visiting teams that I had a chance to chat with wished they had something even half as nice as we do. Good work girls and guys!!

And I would be missing something if I didn't mention all the local support from the fans. The "SKYBOX", as the players named it out beyond right field, was in a word CRAZY.

I wished I could have sat out their with the Crazies but having a six year old son who idolizes this group of kids has a hard time leaving the back of the dugout and I feel obligated to be there with him.

Let's all hope that the group of girls and boys that were getting anything and everything autographed by their hero's remember what it was like and work hard like these kids have and bring another Champion to Cameron County!
