Documentary, Benefit Concert Tonight In Coudersport Music and nostalgia will be in the spotlight today in Coudersport. At 2:00 Saturday afternoon, a documentary based on the 2004 reunion of the local 1960s rock 'n roll band, Ollie and the Go Gos, will debut on the big screen of the Coudersport Theatre. Then, starting at 5:00 p.m., the Hotel Crittenden will be the setting for a six-hour music extravaganza, highlighted by another reunion of Ollie and the Go Gos. Proceeds from both events will support a new countywide scholarship fund that is being launched as a tribute to the late Rev. Robert B. Merten, a former Presbyterian minister, counselor and musician who touched many lives. A capacity crowd is expected at the 275-seat Coudersport Theatre for the world premier of "The Return of Ollie and the Go Gos: A Rocumentary." Producer Diane Bloom will introduce the screening of her work, which features interviews with the performers and townspeople. The Hotel Crittenden, just a block away, will be filled with a wide variety of music that starting at 5:00 p.m., as Ollie and the Go Gos top the bill for the inaugural Robert Merten Circle of Fifths Music Award Benefit. Other featured performers during the evening will in- clude Jakob's Hollow, The Rockaholics, Brother Dietze and the Dixie Boys. Tickets for both events are available at the door. Proceeds will help to launch the Robert Merten Circle of Fifths Music Award, an annual scholarship to student who shows the most promise studying music. |
