Business travelers are being offered an incentive to fly out of the DuBois-Jefferson County Airport. The airport is giving business travelers a $100 rebate for each flight.

The first ethanol plant in Pennsylvania and one of the largest east of the Mississippi River will be built in Clearfield County. The plant is projected to produce 108 million gallons per year.

The operator is BioEnergy International LLC. Ground is expected to be broken early next year. BioEnergy, of Norwell, Mass., will receive a $17.4 million package of state grants, loans and tax credits toward the $250 million cost of building the corn-based ethanol plant and a cellulosic ethanol pilot project, using crop waste or dead forest timber. Lukoil Americas, a subsidiary of Russia's largest oil company, will be the exclusive distributor of the finished product.

With new Rite Aid stores going up in Emporium and St. Marys, the chain will deepen its penetration into rural sections of the northeast. Rite Aid will be located on the corner of the Million Dollar Highway and Ford Road in St. Marys. In Emporium, it will be located along East Allegany Ave.

State police earlier this month seized 38 marijuana plants from a Plank Hollow Road property. They've brought criminal charges against Kathryn Thompson as a result of the investigation. The average marijuana plant yields about a pound of the illicit weed. Although prices vary, marijuana sells for hundreds of dollars per pound, and can reach into the thousands of dollars if divided into smaller packages.

Students at grades kindergarten through three in Olean will have a 90-minute reading class every school day, complete with coaches and teachers helping them individualized instruction. The school district received a $1 million "Reading First" federal grant to operate the program through 2009.

One Cameron County resident has been picked by lottery drawing for an elkhunting license in the five years hunting has been allowed. Will we break the jinx this year? The answer will be revealed on Sept. 23 when the Game Commission awards licenses during the Elk Expo at Kersey.

60 The newest restaurant in St. Marys, an affiliate of the Hoss's Steak and Seafood chain, is providing about 60 jobs. A grand opening was held last week at the business, located on Haller Road.

A study detailed in Psychology Today found that Americans are working an average of 200 more hours a year than they did in 1970. That's about an extra month. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but being a "workaholic" can be a sign of personal problems. The study's author suggests that those who fear they may be workaholics should take a simple test. On a scale of one to five, rate your satisfaction with your family life, friendships, health and hobbies. If the total is less than 10, it's time to cut back on how much you work.

Construction of the Elk County Humane Society's new animal shelter in St. Marys is progressing on schedule. Society leaders Veronica Conrad and Carol Wilson report that the shell is complete and interior work is underway. Conrad said the new shelter will be used for spaying and neutering clinics. She also warned of an increasing number of feral cats. A female cat can produce 18 kittens a year. The organization provides educational programs on responsible pet ownership and pays for the spaying or neutering of more than 500 animals each year. The group also helps police departments investigate animal abuse cases and provides lodging to pets displaced in domestic violence cases.

A recreation area around Elk County's East Branch Clarion River Lake will get a $100,000 infusion from the federal government. The money will be used to add electrical service for campsites, develop additional tenting sites and build a new entrance and registration area.
