As Winter Draws Closer, 'Weatherization' Help Available

With colder weather around the corner, low-income residents are being advised that they can qualify for financial help with insulation and other "weatherization" work to cut their energy consumption.

"This is a good time to apply because, as of now, we do not have a waiting list," said Weatherization P r o g r a m Director Kevin Genevro from t h e Emporiumb a s e d Northern Tier Community Action Corp.

N o r t h e r n Tier is reaching out to e l i g i b l e residents in Cameron, Elk, McKean and P o t t e r c o u n t i e s , offering air sealing and i n s u l a t i o n , repair or replacement of furnaces and windows, and other work.

Genevro said procedures can be completed on houses, apartments or mobile homes. In addition to the physical work, Northern Tier educates the consumer on conserving energy.

"This program is not just for property owners," Genevro pointed out. "Renters who are looking to cut their heating bills can also receive weatherization services."

To qualify, residents must fall within these income limits: one-person household, $14,700; two, $19,800; three, $24,900; four, $30,000; five, $35,100; six, $40,200; for each additional household member, add $5,100.
