Veterans Plan 911 Memorial Service

Local planners will hold a remembrance service on the five-year anniversary of the terrorist bombings in New York City.
Cameron County area residents will assemble on Monday morning to mark the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorists' attack on America.

American Legion Post 194 will host the ceremony on North Broad Street at 10:00 a.m. Those attending are asked to bring a candle to be used during a vigil.

Purpose of the ceremony is to remember the victims of 9/ 11 and the sacrifices of the emergency responders, and to honor U.S. military personnel serving in the War on Terrorism.

The local observance is part of the national "Day to Remember," sponsored by the American Legion. Monday's schedule of events is as follows:

--Welcoming remarks from Kevin Johnson, Cameron County Director of Emergency Services.

--Invocation from the Rev. Scott Melot, First Baptist Church of Emporium.

--National Anthem performed by the Cameron County High School Band, under the direction of Dan Sensenig.

--Address from L. Maxwell Narby, adjutant of American Legion Post 194.

--Patriotic music from the Cameron County High School Band.

--Don Kerr and Cameron County Memorial Detail performing "Taps."

--Closing remarks by Kevin Johnson.
