     Cameron County's boys went up against some of the better talent in the Penn-York Golf League this week with mixed results.

JH Team Opens With Win
     The junior high Red Raider football team opened its season Thursday evening under coach John Fragale with a 36-6 win against Elk County Catholic. Cameron County held a 16-0 lead after one quarter and extended it to 28-0 at the half.

     The high school football season got off to a good start for the Raiders last Friday evening. The thing that most impressed me was the fact that there were as many fans from Emporium as there was from Brockway. And it rained the entire game!

Softball Battle Next Weekend
     Slow-pitch softball players will continue a local tradition when they gather next weekend (Sept. 16-17) for the sixth annual "Battle of the Bars" tournament. Proceeds will benefit the Emporium Co-Ed Softball League.

     Final signup for the USBC (formerly YABA) Youth Bowling League is Tuesday, Sept. 12, at Mountain View Bowling Center from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Previous league members and newcomers must register for the new season.
