Time To Learn About Computers?

About 70 percent of Pennsylvanians now own computers, and more than nine in 10 of them are connected to the Internet. Increasingly, the computer is a vital source of education, entertainment and connection to friends and associates around the world.

It's a nearly indispensable tool in today's society and the trend is only going to continue.

If you're feeling as if the computer age has passed you by, the Community Education Council (CEC) of Elk and Cameron Counties is giving you a chance to catch up.

Two classes for beginners of all ages are being held in Emporium for just $15 each.

"Introduction to Windows and Word" will be held at the CareerLink office on Wednesday, Sept. 20, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The class covers the basics: how to turn on a computer; how to use desktop icons, mouse and keyboard; and basic word processing and other functions with the common Microsoft Word program. Students will also learn how to set up documents, how to print and other skills.

"Internet Basics and E-mail" is an introduction to Internet terminology and ways to use the World Wide Web for everything from communicating with others to conducting research, selling goods and shopping. Students will learn about search engines, setting up e-mail accounts, sending and receiving documents, messages and photographs by email, and other skills. The class will be held from 9:00 a.m. to noon o n Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the C a r e e r L i n k office in Emporium.

For more information or to register, call the CEC toll-free at 1-877-672-3667.

Cameron and Elk County residents can benefit from many other CEC education and training programs, provided through partnership with industry, colleges and community institutions. The office at 4 Erie Avenue in St. Marys is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
