Schedule Flu Shot Clinics

Some members of the newly formed Regional Health System Flu Coalition, Karen Meholic and Dr. Michael Hall of Elk Regional Professional Group (ERPG), and Vicki Votano, RN, of the Community Nurses are shown unpacking their first shipment of flu vaccine.
Community Nurses, ERPG, and Elk Regional Health Center have teamed up this year to offer a comprehensive schedule of flu clinics for the public, age 18 and older.

Twenty-six clinics have been scheduled, beginning Oct. 16 and continuing for several weeks. Clinics open to the public will be held at ERPG physician offices in St. Marys, Bennett's Valley, Ridgway, Emporium and Johnsonburg as well as at every Senior Center, at the Elk Regional Health Center Ridgway campus, at Elk County Catholic High School and at the Kane office of Community Nurses.

Clinics are a public health initiative of Elk Regional Health System to ensure the accessibility of flu immunizations to our communities.

Those with Medicare Part B. will be given a flu shot at no charge. Others may receive their shot for $20. No insurance cards will be accepted at these clinics. Persons who have insurance that covers the cost of immunizations should schedule a visit with their physician to receive a flu shot.

The Centers for Disease Control has stated that October or November is the best time to get vaccinated, but getting vaccinated in December or even later can still be beneficial. Flu season can begin as early as October and last as late as May. The vaccine supply is expected to be adequate this year as all manufacturers have been working to expand their production capacities.
