Students Continue Prayer Event A group of Cameron County High School students will meet at the flagpole outside the school on Wednesday at 7 a.m. to participate in the national "See You at the Pole" prayer event. Members of the community are welcome to join the students, who will number about 15. Last year, local students prayed for the victims of Hurricane Katrina as well as those affected by the typhoon that struck in the Philippines. This year's theme is based on a Bible passage: "Be still and know that I am God." Group leader Alex Davis, a senior, said the students will pray for the victims of the War on Terrorism and others who are suffering. "I think it's great that we have a chance to stand outside the high school, hold hands and pray," Davis said. "Prayer really does make a big difference." See You at the Pole started more than a decade ago in Texas. It is now observed in all 50 states. Jason Snyder, youth pastor at the Emporium Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, commended the local students. "When a group of teenagers gather around the flagpole to pray, it lets them know that they are not alone," he said. |
