Car Strikes, Kills Elk; Driver Okay A Lock Haven man escaped serious injury when his Chevy Blazer struck and killed an elk on Rt. 120 in Lumber Township Monday night at about 11:10. State police from Emporium said Paul Goodman Jr., 62, was eastbound when the animal entered the roadway from the south side into the path of his vehicle. Goodman was wearing his seat belt. The Blazer sustained severe damage. In other police news, a fraud and forgery incident late last month is under investigation by state police from the local barracks. Someone obtained Jon Serianni's checking account information and used it to write two separate checks totaling $3,301. Vandalism at the Moore Hill Cemetery in Shippen Township is also under investigation by state police at Emporium. Sometime between 4:00 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday, someone damaged four American flags. A .38-caliber revolver and other items were recently taken from several vehicles parked in St. Marys, near two hotels along South St. Marys Street. City police continue to investigate. State police from Emporium have charged 52-year-old Louis Woyton of Ford Cliff with driving under the influence of alcohol, after stopping his car Monday evening at about 7:15 on Rt. 120 in Gibson Township. Someone made off with a chain saw from a Fox Hill Road residence in Potter County's Ulysses Township. Kenneth J. Perkins discovered the theft last Friday afternoon. The Stihl Model 046 is valued at $750. A camp burglary on Cowley Hill Road, Portage Township, remains under investigation by state police from Denton Hill. Thieves broke into the Old Swell Fellas Lodge by kicking in a locked door sometime between Aug. 25 and Sept. 8. The camp is owned by Donald H. McKnight of Apollo. A cast iron statue valued at $1,300 was removed from a residence on Brooklynside Road in Port Allegany sometime Wednesday. State police from Kane identified the victim as Harold Lister. Two people were seriously injured in two of three separate motorcycle accidents over the weekend in McKean County. At 1:40 Sunday morning, a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle driven by Robert W. Bosley Jr., 29, of Salamanca, N.Y., was southbound on Seaward Avenue in Foster Township, when it crossed the oncoming lane while rounding a curve, traveled into a yard and struck a fence, sign and mailboxes. Bosley, who was ejected from the motorcycle, was flown by medical helicopter to Hamot Medical Center in Erie and admitted in serious condition Sunday at Hamot. The crash was alcohol-related and Bosley was wearing a helmet, police said. Less than four hours earlier, a motorcycle driven by David Cremen, 32, of Arcade, N.Y., was westbound on Route 646 near its intersection with Summit Road when it went out of control on gravel before skidding off the road into some weeds. Both the operator and his passenger, Aurora Cremen, 30, were ejected, but escaped injury. That same day at about 3:35 p.m. near the same intersection, a motorcycle driven by Freeman E. Smith Jr., 54, of Painted Post, N.Y., was eastbound on Route 646 when it went out of control and left the road, ejecting Smith. A medical helicopter transported Smith, who was wearing a helmet, to Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, N.Y. A Kane woman is charged with failing to notify police of a crash taking place early Sunday morning on Route 4009 near the Elk County line. State police said Jill Cleer was driving a 1999 BMW that traveled off the road while making a left hand curve, struck an embankment, crossed the highway and struck a tree. |
