Hard-Luck Volleyball Teams Opens 0-4 Cameron County is off to a rough start in the Northern Tier High School Volleyball League, but the team's 0-4 NTL mark is misleading. Coach Amy Schwab said her Red Raiders (1-4 overall) have played well against a tough early-season slate, but victories have been elusive. On Thursday night, Julia Glosek dished off an astronomical 45 assists to go with her 13 service points and two aces, but the Raiders still fell to Otto-Eldred in a close match that went five games. O-E rebounded from a 25-22 loss in the opener to edge Cameron County, 25-23. Back came the Raiders in game three, pulling it out 28-26 in overtime. But the Terrors prevailed 25- 21 in the fourth game, setting up the tie-breaker, which went to O-E, 15-11. Sophomore Lauren Cook had 22 assists and eight points for Cameron County, while Erica Stewart finished with six kills, four digs and six points. "Our girls fought hard," Schwab said after the exhausting match. "Overall, both teams played hard." On Tuesday night, the Red Raiders gave the undefeated Coudersport Falcons all they could handle before falling in a four-game match, 14-25, 16-25, 25-22 and 17-25. Jessica Ellenberger played a solid all-around match, with 14 digs, three kills and eight service points, including a paid of aces. Stewart chipped in with six digs, two kills and eight points. Karen Kesterholt had seven blocks and two kills. Last Thursday, the Red Raiders fell to defending league champion Oswayo Valley, 14-25, 8-25, 20-25. Glosek was credited with 23 assists and five digs, while Kesterholt had four kills, three blocks and six digs. The Raiders will participate in the Kane Tournament on Saturday, then resume league play on Tuesday at Smethport. Next home match is Thursday evening (6:00) against Northern Potter.
