Raiders Win Tie-Breaker A rare tie in the boys' scholastic golf match at the Emporium Country Club Tuesday afternoon had the coaches scrambling for their scorecards. Cameron County (5-4) emerged with the win in the 27 1/2 to 27 1/2 deadlock with Port Allegany, as a result of the "sixth-man tiebreaker" rule. It was a big win for the Red Raiders of coach Tom Glosek, who also defeated Austin in the three-team match, 32-23. John Guisto shot a 42 and Jon Lundberg a 45 to lead the hosts. Also contributing were Josh Strahl (47), Grant Vassallo (49), Rich Farren (52) and Nick Guisto (60). Port Allegany's Chris Sabolcik continued his torrid pace, as he carded a 38. Desiree Lamer (44) and Zach Jeffers (50) had the top scores for Austin. On Monday, Cameron County fell to Oswayo Valley on the Green Wave's home course in Bolivar, N.Y., 37-18, but defeated Austin by an identical 37-18 count. Vassallo's round of 48 led the Red Raiders. Strahl was second with a 51. OV's Zach Tarbell earned medalist honors with a threeover par 39. Jimmy Earle had a 47 to lead Austin. Coach Glosek's boys will be off to Brookville for the PIAA District 9 Championships on Monday, followed by a home match with Smethport and Bradford on Tuesday. |
