NS Completes Second Round Of Testing

Norfolk Southern Railway recently completed a second round of private water supply sampling at more than 160 residences in the vicinity of the June 30 derailment site in Gardeau.

Norfolk Southern offered the sampling without charge to area residents, as a followup to the first round of residential water sampling conducted in July.

As with the first round of sampling, none of the results from the second round of sampling exceeded the upper limit of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommended guideline for pH of 8.5. Norfolk Southern reported these results to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) and the McKean county and Cameron County Emergency Management Agencies.

Norfolk Southern continues to cooperate fully with PADEP and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission on the design and implementation

of a remediation plan for the areas impacted by the June 30 derailment.
