County Residents Signing Up For 'Weatherization' About one-third of Cameron County residents are eligible for financial help to pay for insulation and other "weatherization" work to cut their energy consumption. Weatherization Program Director Kevin Genevro from the Emporium-based Northern Tier Community Action Corp. reports that the colder weather is steering more people to sign up for the service. Northern Tier is reaching out to eligible residents in Cameron, Elk, McKean and Potter counties, offering air sealing and insulation, repair or replacement of furnaces and windows, and other work. Genevro said procedures can be completed on houses, apartments or mobile homes. In addition to the physical work, Northern Tier educates the consumer on conserving energy. The director points out that the program is not just for property owners. Renters who are looking to cut their heating bills can also receive weatherization services. To qualify, residents must fall within these income limits: one-person household, $14,700; two, $19,800; three, $24,900; four, $30,000; five, $35,100; six, $40,200; for each additional household member, add $5,100. Additional information is available at the Northern Tier office, 135 W. 4th St., or by calling 486-1760. |
