Ethanol Plant Supported

A proposed ethanol production plant near Karthaus in Clearfield County has drawn the support of the Quehanna Industrial Development Corp. (QIDC), a citizens' group made up of business interests, community leaders and outdoors advocates.Members met Monday in Karthaus to voice their support for the BioEnergy International plant, which has been under consideration for more than four years. The facility would covert vegetative matter, most likely corn, into ethanol to be burned as a subsitute for gasoline.

QIDC President Ray Savel said the plant would ease the real estate tax burden in the West Branch School District while providing jobs.
