Updated Elk-Viewing Guide Now Available

Local businesses have banded together to capitalize on the popularity of the region's free-roaming elk herd.

They've pooled their resources to produce an updated "Elk Viewing Guide" that makes it easy for visitors to locate the animals while spending money at local motels, restaurants, gas stations and other businesses.

Tourist promoters from Cameron, Elk, Clarion, Jefferson and Forest counties teamed with the state's "Pennsylvania Wilds" program to produce the updated fourcolor guide. It contains 32 pages with maps, viewing locations, lodging information and other details.

"One of the best features of the guide is that it's free," said Carla Wehler, sales director for the Great Outdoors Visitors Bureau. "The new guide highlights information about communities throughout the elk range, tips on when and where to see the elk, and points on elk-viewing etiquette."

Wehler said the entire guide is posted on the Internet in PDF format, for easy printing by home computer users, at www.pagreatoutdoors.com.

Copies can also be ordered by calling the organization toll-free at 1-800-348-9393, Ext. 24.
