Snowmobilers can stop at several scenic vistas on the long ride out Ridge Road.

Outreach efforts promoting Potter County as a mecca for snowmobilers are paying off.

Area business and tourist officials have been seeking ways to stimulate the local economy from January through March. Snowmobiling seems to fit the bill, according to David Brooks, executive director of the Potter County Visitors Assn.

PCVA is in the midst of a multi-year campaign to attract sledders to the region. A major component of the plan is a two-page cooperative advertisement published in the popular , magazine, Keystone Snowmobiler.

That publication is mailed to every person who has a snowmobile registered in Pennsylvania.

PCVA has also developed a snowmobilers' information resource on its public website, www.visitpottercounty.com. Trail conditions are updated weekly and potential visitors can click on business advertisements to plan their trips.

Additionally, PCVA teamed with the Pennsylvania Wilds Marketing Corp. for a prominent presence at the Big East Snowmobile Show in Syracuse, N.Y., and the Snowmobile and ATV Show in York.

"Those appearances went very well," Brooks said. "OurVisitors Guide was the most popular guide requested. Now, all we need is for Mother Nature to cooperate and we should have a great winter."
