Halloween plans

Austin Volunteer Fire Company and Communities That Care will hold the annual Halloween Party and Parade this afternoon, from 1:00 to 3:00 at the firehall.

Children in grades six and under are welcome. Costume prizes will be awarded. Treats and beverages will be provided.

Austin Trick or Treat will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 on Halloween night. Those wishing to treat the children are asked to leave their porch lights on.

Harvest supper today

East Fork Sportsmen's Club will hold a Harvest Supper beginning at 4:00 this afternoon at the clubhouse. Cost is $6.00 for adults or $20 for families. The public is welcome.

The club is also opening its kitchen every Saturday during November. Soup, sandwiches and drinks will be available.

East Fork Sportsmen are selling tickets for a Savage Model III 300 Winchester Mag Bear-Deer Rifle. Winning number will be determined by the Pa. Lottery drawing on Nov. 26. Tickets are available from Wharton General Store, Kenner's Store and Perry's Country Store.

The club has slated Shotgun Block Shoots for Nov. 19 and Nov. 26. The Coyote Hunt has been scheduled for Jan. 26-28, 2007.

Supporting 'pride'

Austin Community Pride Committee will hold a chicken and biscuit dinner from noon to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at the firehall. Cost is $5.00 for adults and $3.50 for children under 12. Proceeds will be used for the 2007 fireworks display.

The committee has scheduled its annual Christmas Bazaar from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12, at the firehall. Anyone wishing to set up a table should call 647-8947 or 647-5534.

Society to meet Next meeting of the E.O. Austin Home/Historical Society will be held Thursday, Nov. 2, at the museum, starting at 7:00 p.m.

Anyone interested in Austin area history is welcome.

In the community

--Sports Boosters will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, in the school cafeteria. Parents of AHS athletes are encouraged to attend and others are welcome.

--School report cards for the first marking period will be issued on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

--Austin Communities That Cares reminds those attending the Christmas

Shopping Trip to Erie on Nov. 4 that the bus will leave the school parking lot at 7:00 a.m.

--Austin United Methodist Church will sponsor a Harvest Supper on Wednesday, Nov. 1, from 4:00 to 7:30. Tickets are $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for ages 5-12.

--Austin fourth-graders have set their annual Spaghetti Dinner on Friday, Nov. 10, at the firehall. Serving will begin at 4:30 p.m. Cost is $6.00 for adults, $3.00 for children ages 4-12. There will be a 50/50 drawing and Chinese auction, along with live entertainment. Proceeds will be used for a class trip to Pittsburgh.
