Turkey season today

Successful turkey hunters who notice a metal band on their birds are asked to contact the Pa. Game Commission.

As part of a study, more than 300 turkeys are being captured and banded annually in Pennsylvania.

Gobblers have a riveted leg band on one leg and a standard aluminum leg band on the other. Each is

imprinted with a code, as well as a toll-free telephone number.

The study focuses on survival rates, travel patterns and the impact of the spring turkey season on the agestructure of the male population.
