Former Falcons Playing At College Level

Ross Simcoe
Most local football players never again set foot on the gridiron once their high school careers are over.

For a select few, however, there is football life after high school. Several recent Coudersport graduates dot the rosters of collegiate teams.

At Allegheny College in M e a d v i l l e , Ross Simcoe has been a stalwart of the Gator defense in his junior year. Through the Gators' first seven games, the 5- 9, 215-lb. j u n i o r l i n e b a c k e r leads the team in tackles per game and is tied for the team lead in sacks. Allegheny carries a 4-3 record into tonight's home game with Ohio Wesleyan.

His father, Coudersport High School head football coach Paul Simcoe, also played college football.

David Babcock helped the Falcons battle into the state Class A semifinals last season. This year, he's playing for Carnegie- M e l l o n University. Babcock, a 6- 0, 190-lb. running back, has appeared in five of the Tartans' first seven games, averaging 5.9 yards per carry in limited action. CMU carries a 7-0 record into this afternoon's game at Washington, Missouri.

Punter/placekicker Caleb M o r r i s , another key member of last year's Falcon squad, is a reds h i r t e d freshman at Division I University of M a r y l a n d . That allows him to practice with the full squad and become accustomed to Maryland's rigid academic and disciplinary standards.

When senior and pro prospect Adam Podlesh graduates, Morris should step in as the Terrapins' punter. He'll still have four years of playing eligibility beginning with the 2007 season.

A third member of the CHS Class of 2006, Brandon Smith, is also waiting his turn as a redshirted freshman lineman at Slippery Rock University.

Jeremiah Wagner, a 5-10, 190- lb. linebacker, is a member of the Alfred (N.Y.) University. Wagner has seen action in two games for the 6-1 Saxons.
