High school, Time Warner a team in local food drive Coudersport Area High School (CAHS) has signed on to support a local charitable event that grows more successful with every passing year. High School Principal Alanna Huck has agreed to help organize the Holiday Food Drive, which was started by Adelphia Communications Corp. in 2001 and is being continued this year by Time Warner Cable. Starting this week and continuing through Dec. 15, Time Warner and CAHS will be collecting food and money to benefit two local charities: Christmas House and the Coudersport Community Food Bank. Lorraine Yarborough of Time Warner has joined Principal Huck to chair the drive. The Time Warner School Building, located on North Main Street, and the Coudersport High School lobby will be the drop-off points for community donations of food. Additionally, both organizations will be encouraging participation in their own ranks. "We're planning two food deliveries to each of the charities," Yarborough said. "The first delivery will help both of the organizations assist families in need for the Thanksgiving holiday. The second delivery will support their Christmas giving programs." Huck said CAHS was anxious to support the Holiday Food Drive as part of a community outreach, while broadening the educational experience. The sponsors report that the following items are especially needed: infant formula, peanut butter, canned tuna, canned chicken, canned beef stews, canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned and boxed juices, rice and rice mixes, cold cereals, infant cereals, flour, baby food, canned soups and cranberry sauce. Yarborough pointed out that cash donations will help both the Christmas House and the Coudersport Food Bank purchase turkeys and other items to be delivered to needy families during the holiday season. One hundred percent of the money donated will go directly to the underprivileged in Potter County. Those donations should be dropped off at the Time Warner School Building (reception desk), with checks made out to either Christmas House or Coudersport Food Bank. |
