Veterans Day ceremony today; Poppy Day Friday

Cameron County war veterans and those who appreciate their sacrifices will gather on Saturday for a special Veterans Day service at the Big Flag Area in Emporium, starting at 10:30 a.m.

Floyd Keffer, director of veterans affairs, has announced that local veterans' organizations will dedicate the World War II monument during today's service.

Veterans Day marks the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. The day has since evolved as a time for honoring living veterans who have served in the military during wartime or peacetime.

Local veterans' groups will also observe Poppy Day on Friday, Nov. 17, at various locations in Emporium from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
