Recycling bin closed

Austin Area PTO has announced that the organization's recycling bin has been closed for the winter. Aluminum cans are still being collected at the Austin Borough Recycling Center, located on Route 872 South.

Proceeds from the recycling of cans will be used for the "Kans For Kids" program.

Breakfast Sunday

Hunters who are in the area are welcome to join members of the Austin community for a filling, home-cooked breakfast on Sunday at the Austin Firehall.

Fifth-graders from Austin Area School are serving pancakes, eggs, sausage, toast, home fries and beverages as a fund-raiser for their class trip to Harrisburg and Gettysburg. A 50/ 50 drawing and Chinese auction will be held. Serving starts at 8:00 a.m.

Tree lighting Dec. 3

Austin's annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, at the town square.

here's still time to claim a tree for decorating by contacting Kim Henderson at 647-8790. The trees will be placed at the square on Sunday and a test run of the lights will be held Dec. 1. Participants are asked to place at least 300 lights on each tree in order to assure a bright display.

Shotgun shoot Sunday

East Fork Sportsmen's Club has slated its final shotgun block shoots for Sunday. The club is also selling tickets for a Savage Model III 300 Winchester. Winning number will be determined by the Pa. Lottery drawing on Sunday. Tickets are available from Wharton General Store, Kenner's Store and Perry's Country Store.

Ornaments on sale

E. O. Austin Home and Historical Society is selling keepsake Christmas ornaments depicting Austin Area School.

The green ornaments are available for $6.00 at the E. O. Austin Home, Northwest Savings Bank, Austin Area School, Costello General Store and Ritsick's Garage.
