Potter County news briefs Help needed for meals The Potter County Area Agency on Aging is asking for public support its Holiday Meals Program. The organization provides about 270 nutritious meals a week to homebound seniors who are unable to cook for themselves. The program helps enable seniors to remain independent and in their own homes as long as possible. The need is greater over the winter months. Persons donating $20 or more will receive five winter scene note cards. Those wishing to donate should send a check, payable to the Potter County AAA, to Agency on Aging, c/o Holiday Meals, P.O. Sent to state prison A Coudersport man will serve from 27 months to six years in state prison for stealing at least $200,000 in jewelry from long-time local resident Scott Bruzzi. Judge John Leete handed down the sentence in the case against Brian Honey, 27, last week, following Honey's guilty plea to a third-degree felony count. Bruzzi had operated a jewelry business at the former Mountain Ridge Sports business, operated by Honey's family in downtown Coudersport. Potter County license plate. Potter County Visitors Association has announced that the new Potter County license plate is now available through the PennDOT Specialty Plate Program. The plate has the traditional Pennsylvania license plate colors and text, but features the full color PCVA logo with the slogan "God's Country." PCVA is the first tourist promotion agency in the state to produce a specialty license plate. Cost of the license plate is $40. Applications can be requested through the PCVA website at www.visitpottercounty.com, or by calling 1-888-768-8372. The cost includes the state registration fee of $20. After the initial purchase of the plate, regular registration will be required on a yearly basis. Free health screening Charles Cole Memorial Hospital will hold a health fair on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A free heart health screening, cooking demonstration and flu shots are planned. Free screenings include blood pressure, body fat composition, total blood cholesterol, and random blood sugar. To learn more, call Cole Hospital at 274-9300. The health fair is coordinated by the Outpatient Diabetes Education and Cardiac Rehabilitation departments. Support for caregivers. Grants are available from the Potter County Area Agency on Aging for people who are caring for older relatives or friends in their homes. Family Caregiver Support Program funds support efforts to keep elderly residents in the home and as independent as possible.
