Cary 'unsung lineman'
Coudersport High School senior Isaac Cary was presented the A. B. Fitzpatrick Memorial Award this week during the annual Big 30 Football Awards Banquet at the St. Bonaventure University Clubhouse.
The Fitzpatrick Award recognizes the top "unsung lineman" in the region. Cary, a 6-1, 210- lb. center and defensive lineman, was cited for his effective blocking as a member of the Coudersport offensive unit. The award is named for the late Olean Times Herald publisher, complementing the more highprofile honors that can be measured with statistics and are more often recognized.
Offensive linemen are frequently overlooked for their critical role in a football team's success. Cary has been a steady performer for the Falcons, opening holes for running backs and keeping defenders at bay to protect the Coudersport quarterbacks. He has been an anchor on two teams that have won 25 of their last 26 games.
Over the past two seasons, Cary has battled through nagging hip injuries to effectively block, while continuing his role as one of the team's leading tacklers.
Isaac is the son of Steve and Georgia Cary of Coudersport. His brother, Ben, had a successful football career at Coudersport. He graduated in 2003.
