Mary E. Smith Mary E. Smith, 86, of Driftwood, died at the Presbyterian-Univ. Hospital, Pittsburgh, Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006. She was born April 22, 1920 in Porter, a daughter of the late Melvin and Edna Mae Snair Sherry. She married the late Leo Smith. Mrs. Smith graduated from DuBois Business College. She owned and operated the Driftwood Service Station for several years. She also worked for the Parks Bureau at the Stevenson Dam. She also had worked in the office of the Community Nurses and served on the Driftwood Board of Elections. She was active in the annual "Santa Claus Comes to Driftwood" and was a member of the Driftwood Senior Club. Surviving are one daughter, Geraldine L. Knisely, DuBois; one step-son, Leo "Ham" Smith, Huntly; one stepdaughter, Patricia Boothman, DuBois; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Goss, Punxsutawney; JoAnne Curry, Fairbanks, Alaska; and one brother, Ellis Sherry, Hollister, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one stepson; five brothers and one sister. A memorial service was held Saturday at the Down County Baptist Church, in Driftwood with Rev. Dwight Simpson, pastor, officiating. Agnes Kerstetter Agnes S. (Bodnovich) Kerstetter, 86, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte. Susan Bodnovich, Mrs. Kerstetter and her family lived in Rich Valley from 1952 to 2000, when they moved to Port Charlotte to make it their home. In August 2006, she and Donald celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Kerstetter was a musician and played in numerous bands. She is survived by her husband, Donald R. Kerstetter of Port Charlotte; son, Don L. (Linda) Kerstetter of Harrisburg; two daughters, Barbara A. (Welm) Donath of New York City, and Dr. Jane E. Kerstetter of Stafford Springs, Ct., and four grandchildren. Mrs. Kerstetter was preceded in death by her mother, father, three sisters and one brother. A viewing was held at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens on Saturday. Arrangements were by Paul Schelm Funeral Home of Port Charlotte. Janis Hill Janis Louise Hill, 75, of Ridgway, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, at her residence following a brief illness. She was born Aug. 15, 1931, in Driftwood, daughter of the late Robert Franklin and M. Ann (Ingram) Snyder. On may 10, 1951, she married John F. Hill, who died Nov. 15, 2003. She had resided in Ridgway for the past 40 years and was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church. She had been an Elk County Auditor for 12 years. She is survived by children, Laura Hill of Bradford; Mark (Tina) Hill of St. Marys; Kathleen Hill of Ridgway; Daniel (Tanya) Hill of Ridgway; Michael (Heather) of Union City and Michelle Hill of Emporium; three grandchildren, Alexandra, Riley and Conner Hill; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Robert and James Ivan Snyder; and two sisters in infancy, Bernice and Kathryn Snyder. Memorials may be made to the Ridgway Ambulance Corporation. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Thompson Funeral Home. |
