Workers Shocked, Depressed

A visit on Thursday to the two major employee groups who will be axed confirmed the shock and depression that set in instantly.

“I am just sick,” said a middle-aged single mother of two, employed at the TWC Advanced Products Customer Center. “I just cannot believe it. No one knew this was coming. In fact, they were just telling us how much they needed us and said they’d be adding more employees in January.”

Another APCC worker, married with children, was devastated:

“There is no place hiring. Level 3 has a freeze and Charles Cole Hospital has nothing unless you’re a nurse. My wife makes less than I do, so she can’t support us. I am scared to death. I don’t know what I am going to do.”

A recent college graduate who took a job this year with the other affected group, the Sales & Marketing Advanced Retention Team (SMART), said he’ll have no choice but to leave the area: “I just got engaged and was looking at this as a job where I could grow and, hopefully, be able to support a family. So much for my hopes of spending my life in the same town where I grew up.”
