Cameron County news briefs Cookie sale today St. Hilda’s Guild of Emmanuel Episcopal Church will hold a Christmas cookie sale in front of Lundberg Pharmacy on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Assorted cookies on Christmas-themed trays and smaller packages will be available. Toy drive underway Northwest Savings Bank of Emporium is once again holding a Christmas Is For Kids Toy Drive, in conjunction with the Salvation Army. Toys to be distributed to childen from needy families can be dropped off in the bank’s lobby from now through Wednesday. EVFD calendar sales Emporium Volunteer Fire Department is selling its fundraising calendars, with proceeds to help cover expenses for the 2010 Tri- County Firemen Assn. Convention and Parade in Emporium. Additional details are available from Tom Barton at 486-0732. Christmas Bake Sale A Christmas Bake Sale will be held today at St. Mark’s Church in O’Connell Hall from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Chances will be sold on two Christmas items. The sale is sponsored by Catholic Daughters of the Americas. No Alzheimer’s meeting Alzheimer’s Support Group meetings scheduled for Dec. 13 in Emporium and Dec. 14 in St. Marys have been cancelled due to the holidays. Meetings will resume at the regular times in January. Food Pantry distribution The Cameron County Food Pantry will hold a distribution on Wednesday, Dec. 20, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the building located behind the Northern Tier offices. Bingo for Books The Family Center will hold its Holiday Bingo for Books on Thursday from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Emmanuel Episcopal Parish Hall. Space is limited. Registrations are being accepted by phone at 486- 1251 The event is sponsored by Emmanuel Episcopal Church, the Family First Campaign and the Family Center. Blood pressure screenings Free blood pressure tests are being offered every Wednesday afternoon in December at the Community Nurses office, 313 Chestnut Street, Emporium. Screenings will be available from 3:00 to 4:00. |
