John Sarick

John J. “Sonny” Sarick, 83, of Emporium died at his residence Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006.

He was born May 31, 1923 in Emporium, a son of the late Joseph and Anna Fritz Sarick.

On Oct. 31, 1944 in St. Mark Catholic Church, he married Clara L. Vassallo Sarick, who survives.

Mr. Sarick graduated from Emporium High School in 1941. He served with the U.S. Army in the Aleutian Islands and received a American Campaign Metal and a American Victory Metal for his service in the European Theater of Operations, and the Asiatic- Pacific Campaign.

He was an active member of the Cameron County Memorial Detail, a life member of the Miller-Raffaele Post VFW, the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Emporium Lodge. He also belonged to the Olkosky- Jessop American Legion Post 194, Sinnemahoning Sportsmen’s Club and the St. Mark Catholic Church.

He enjoyed the outdoors and especially enjoyed tending to his flower garden.

Surviving are one son, Barry E. Sarick, Beechwood Road; one daughter, Nancy Sarick Vierhaus, San Jose, Calif.; three grandchildren, John D. Sarick, Jill E. Sarick, Eric J. Vierhaus, and one brother, Robert Sarick, Emporium.

Mr. Sarick was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Ann Steele, Clara Graner, Mary Wheaton; three brothers, Michael, Joseph and Andrew Sarick.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at the St. Mark Catholic Church with Rev. Paul S. Siebert, as celebrant. A military service was accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail. Burial was in the St. Mark Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cameron County Memorial Detail.
