Raider girls open season Cameron County opened the girls’ high school basketball season with mixed results. The Red Raiders beat DuBois High, 47-41, in the opening game of the Brockway Invitational on Friday, breaking a 35-35 tie with a strong finish. Kristin Sestina (11 points, 11 rebounds) and Whitney Lewis (10 points, 12 rebounds) each recorded a double-double for Cameron County. Shelby Summers had five steals and scored eight points. In Saturday’s championship game, Redbank Valley held a commanding edge on the boards in pulling away from the Red Raiders late in the game for a 42-32 win. Sestina (8 rebounds) and Jess Ellenberger (5 rebounds) led the Raiders with eight points each. Cameron County returned to action Wednesday night and dropped a 40-34 decision a St. Marys Public. The hosts found the mark from the foul line to pull out the win. “We played very well defensively,” Raider coach Pat Lewis said. “Kristin Sestina in particular had a very strong defensive game.” Summers hit a pair of three-pointers and scored a game-high 12 points. Ellenberger had 11 rebounds and seven points. Lewis scored 10 points and hauled down eight rebounds. Cameron County (1-2) remains on the road with games at Brockway on Monday and Galeton on Friday. The home opener is Dec. 18 against Ridgway. |
