Tough loss for Coudy wrestlers

Coudersport didn’t have its full squad available, but the Falcons still gave the Wellsboro Hornets all they could handle in Tuesday night’s season opener in Wellsboro. The Hornets escaped with a 34- 32 win.

Junior Steve White (160), sophomore Rytz Bowman (112), and freshmen Kyle Collins (285) and Ryan Bodecker (152) pinned their opponents.

Mike Dunn (215), a junior, was a winner by major decision. Senior Sean Davis won by forfeit. Sophomore Rich Keagle recorded a fall in a 192-lb. exhibition match.

The Falcons of first-year head coach Thad Taylor were

without the services of some of their projected top performers, including Kody Frederick and Dirk Cowburn, who have just begun practices following the conclusion of the high school football season.

“I’m pleased with the way our guys attacked even though, we came up a little short,” Taylor said. “Our guys showed a lot of fight, and that’s something we can build on.”

The Falcons return to action next Saturday at the Kane Duals.
