CHS boys begin season next week

After a delay due to the extended football season, coach Chris Fink finally sends his Coudersport High School basketball team onto the court with four games over a six-day period next week.

The Falcons open their season Monday at Cowanesque, followed by a trip to Portville, N.Y., on Wednesday. They’ll compete in the St. Marys Public Tournament next Friday and Saturday night.

“Things have been a little uncertain as to who was going to play this season,” Fink told Endeavor News. “We’re running late in terms of finding out what’s going to work best for us on the floor, but I do expect us to have a good season.”

The frontcourt will likely be manned by juniors John Hau (6-3) and Blair Heimel (6-5). Two other juniors, the versatile Colton Corey and point guard Derek Burdick, are also back, as is senior Logan Hathaway.

Sophomore Brett Whitman (5-11) will see significant playing time, as will senior guard Drew Levavasseur, once he recovers from a thumb injury.

Fink will also use juniors Justin Kinder and Carin Knight, as well as sophomores Nate Minor and Eric Babcock, all late arrivers due to the long football season.
