Publisher’s Point Of View
Robert Allan Hooftallen

For the past several weeks, our rural delivery driver has failed to reach the majority of our subscribers and a couple of our dealers.

Our driver was suddenly without a vehicle and it has taken him the better part of three weeks to rectify that situation. While that was certainly not our fault, not having a back-up plan was.

I have always considered the delivery service the best method of getting our papers to local subscribers, especially since the newspaper arrives at the Endeavor office Friday evenings, most often after the post office closes. And since the Emporium Post Office doesn’t bulk mail on Saturday, the newspaper wouldn’t be mailed until Monday.

With the delivery service, in theory, roughly half of the subscribers on the rural delivery route are supposed to get their newspapers Friday evening and the rest Saturday morning and afternoon.

What we’ve learned is that it is nearly impossible to make the theory reality on a weekly basis— there are just too many factors involved that jeopardize the service.

Our corrective measures include an earlier print time and consequently, earlier deadlines. News and advertising items won’t be accepted for the current week’s edition after noon on Wednesday.

Rural delivery to subscribers has been eliminated.

The paper will be printed earlier and prepared for bulk mailing Friday. People who have received their newspapers by rural delivery will now receive them in the mail.

We will extend by one month the subscriptions for subscribers who were affected by the problem.

Back issues of Endeavor News are available at our West 4th St. office. Let us know which ones you did not get and we’ll be sure to get them to you.

Additionally, please let us know by calling 486-1400 if you do not receive your newspaper in the mail. We’ll correct it immediately.

We are sorry that we have inconvenienced some of our subscribers. We hope you’ll forgive us.
