Esther Bosnik
Esther S. Bosnik, 82, of East FEsther S. Bosnik, 82, of Emporium, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, in her home.
Born April 4, 1924, in Emporium, she was the daughter of Harry Simeon and Mildred Haupt Spence. On May 16, 1947, in Williamsport she married James R. Bosnik, who died Jan., 27, 2006.
A lifelong resident of Emporium, Mrs. Bosnik graduated from Emporium High School in 1942 and Penn State University in 1946.
Beginning in 1946, she was employed by the Emporium School System as an art teacher, and continued with the Cameron County School System until retiring in 1994. Since 1960, she was also the yearbook advisor, a position she held for several years after her retirement.
Mrs. Bosnik was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Emporium; a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, formerly Emporium Chapter #101 and currently Phoenix Chapter #15 of Smethport; the Pa. State Education Assn.; Emporium Country Club; and Friends of the Library in Emporium. She was also one of the founders of Cameron County Arts in Emporium, and managed the West Side Gallery, also in Emporium. In the 1950s,she owned and operated The Hobby Horse ceramic studio in Emporium.
Survivors include one son, Dr. James R. (Diane L. Pastella) Bosnik of Philadelphia; one daughter, Sally B. (Dr. Edward J.) Gannon of State College; one brother, Ross E. Spence of Melbourne, Fla.; one niece, Carol S. Purcell, of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; and one nephew, Michael R. Spence, of Merritt Island, Fla..
Mrs. Bosnik was predeceased by one sister, Lois S. Stockdale.
Funeral and committal services were held in the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gary Atkinson officiating.
Burial was in Newton Cemetery, Emporium. An Eastern Star Service was held in the Funeral Home.
