Joseph Grovanz

Joseph Grovanz, 96, of Emporium, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, in his home.

Born Sept. 25, 1910 in Latrobe, he was the son of Peter and Rose Demoro Grovanz. On Aug. 27, 1940, in Emporium, he married Philomena Gentile who survives.

A lifelong resident of Emporium, Mr. Grovanz was employed for many years by GTE Sylvania in the maintenance department before retiring in 1975.

Mr. Grovanz was a member of St. Mark Church in Emporium, where he was an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Quarter Century Club, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 368, Knights of Columbus Council 990, and the Christabelle Club, all in Emporium.

He is survived by one son, Carl Grovanz of Ontario, N.Y.; two daughters, Gloria Kengor of Butler and Marlene Kane of Emporium; nine grandchildren; ten greatgrandchildren; one brother, Peter Grovanz of Emporium; two sisters, Rose Gentile of Russelton and Josephine Haight of Ashtabula, Ohio; nieces and nephews.

Mr. Grovanz was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph Grovanz and James Grovanz; and five sisters, Jenny Yore, Catherine Carnovale, Lottie Merley, Theresa Young and Christine Grovanz.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Mark Church, with Fr. Paul Siebert as celebrant. Burial was in St. Mark Cemetery,
