Defensive pressure is the foundation of the early-season basketball success for Coach Brian Green’s Coudersport girls.
With all 11 players seeing floor time, Green’s undefeated Falcons (5-0) dominated the annual Citizens Trust Classic on the home court last weekend.
In Friday’s opener, tournament MVP Kristy Kamper scored 16 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and grabbed six steals in Coudersport’s easy 70- 29 win over Wellsville, N.Y. Jessica Wilson added 12 points and five steals
Saturday’s title game against St. Marys Public was also a mismatch, as Coudersport rolled to a 57-24 win. Kamper (16), Wilson (12), Hope Morris (12) and Carli Duffee (9) led the scoring attack.
In both tournament games, the Falcons employed an aggressive press and scored several baskets on transition.
“Our defensive pressure was just fantastic,” Green said.
Coudersport followed that up with a 53-33 win a Troy on Wednesday night, overcoming a sluggish start to take a 25-14 lead by halftime. Wilson dominated the paint, scoring 19 points and grabbing 14 rebounds, while blocking five shots. Kamper had 14 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and four blocks. Morris added nine points.
Green’s girls are on the road next week with games at Wellsboro on Tuesday and Johnsonburg on Thursday.
