A Younger Voice

Soon, Christians around the world will mark the birth of Jesus Christ. Many people seem to have forgotten why Christmas is celebrated. To some, it’s all about the presents. To businesses, it’s all about the money.

Here’s an idea: this year, why not take some of the money you’ve budgeted for Christmas gifts and instead donate it to the needy?

In Cameron County, clergy members are leading by example and demonstrating their commitment to the real Christmas spirit. You’ll find them living their faith as they organize the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign for the less fortunate.

They have taken to the radio airwaves to share God’s word. They’ll also be holding special holiday church services to help us remember the reason for the season and to minister to a spiritually hurting community.

Meanwhile, outside of the religious sphere, society seems bound and determined to remove Christ from Christmas. The chain stores and others

have changed their greetings to the lame “Happy Holidays,” or the even lamer “Seasons Greetings.”

The next time you hear one of those secular greetings, just respond with a heartfelt “Merry Christmas!”
