Coudy’s boys faced their first defeat on the basketball court since last season’s state playoffs Saturday night. St. Marys Public found the mark from long range to blow by the Falcons, 73-58, in the title game of the St. Marys Shootout Tournament.
Most of the Dutchmen’s 11 three-pointers came after the halftime break, erasing a 26-20 deficit. Louie Pisani canned five treys while Levi Welder sank three.
“I don’t know if we could have defended them any better than we did,” said Coudersport coach Chris Fink. “They shot the ball the way we knew they were capable of shooting it.”
John Hau had 18 points and 15 rebounds, Colton Corey 19 points and three assists, and Blair Heimel 12 rebounds and eight points for Coudersport (3- 1).
The Falcons reached the title game with a 45-34 win over a physical Clarion team on Friday. Heimel (14 rebounds) and Hau (10 rebounds) each scored 10 points, while Corey had a game-high 15 points. Fink’s team was slated to
host Portville (N.Y.) Friday night and will remain idle until the Coudersport Holiday Tournament opener Wednesday night.
