Schatz (11-0) named Outstanding Wrestler

Senior Chad Schatz made easy work of six more opponents last week, improving his record to 11-0 as the Cameron County High School wrestlers (4-7) continued their 2006-07 season with mixed results.
Schatz was named Outstanding Wrestler at Saturday’s Kane Duals, pinning all five of his foes. The longest any of them could stay on the mat with the Red Raider heavyweight was 81 seconds.
Cameron County also boasts a pair of 10-1 wrestlers in the early season. Freshman Dom Manginell (112) went 4-1 at Kane, pinning three opponents in the process. Junior Taylor
Songer (152) also went to 10-1. His only loss at Kane was a 5-4 decision.
Sophomore Randy Schatz (140) is now 9-2. He recorded three falls and an 8- 3 decision at Kane, while losing a tough 7-6 decision. Another sophomore, Mike Baker (171/160), also has nine wins.
Bryce Frey (135), Tyler Bidwell (119) and Hunter Bardo (160) each picked up a pair of wins at Kane.
The Raiders lost the services of junior Marcus Mullens (189/171), who suffered a dislocated elbow after winning a couple of matches at Kane.
In team competition, Cameron County went 2-3 with wins over Kane (39-36) and Oswayo Valley (48-24), and losses to Northeast (54- 24), Smethport (54-16) and Punxsutawney (42-21).
Raiders defeat Owls
Songer’s 1-0 overtime win at 152 lbs. was one of the highlights in Cameron County’s 51-22 win at Bradford last Thursday.
Chad Schatz continued his streak of quick pins, dropping Ryan Mongillo in just 47 seconds. Manginell and Baker were awarded wins by forfeit.
Also for the Raiders, Randy Schatz had a pin at 140. Mullens (171) recorded a pin in just 24 seconds. Frey, Darrick Mason and Matt Burke (215) were awarded forfeit wins.
The Raiders’ home opener was Friday night against St. Marys Public. Results weren’t available by press time. They return to the mats next Saturday at the Olean Big 30 Tournament.
