Hot-Shooting Williamson too much for Austin boys

Hot-shooting Williamson was too much to handle for the Austin boys Tuesday night on their home basketball floor. The Warriors sank seven threepointers and placed five players in a double figures in a 72-49 triumph.

Josh Bundy scored 21 points, Matt Smith had 14 rebounds, and Adam Walker hit three treys and finished with 12 points for the Panthers (0-8).

On Monday at Renovo, Bucktail built an insurmountable 34-14 lead by halftime and held on as Austin cut the margin to 10 points before falling, 55-37. “Their size really hurt us, in the first half especially, when they got a lot of rebounds,” Panther coach Scott Easton said. Bundy scored 13 points and Tim Cheplic 11 for Austin, while sophomore Mike Dieffendorfer grabbed nine rebounds.

Last Friday, the Panthers had an off-night in their shooting, but still hung close to Liberty before falling 54-39. Bundy and Walker each scored 14 points while Smith had nine rebounds for Austin.

Austin returns to action next Tuesday and Wednesday in the Port Allegany Holiday Tournament.
