Coudy girls edge Wellsboro

Coudersport’s Jessica Wilson (right) has establish herself as one of the dominant inside players in the season’s early going.
Visiting Coudersport built a 27-8 first-quarter cushion and then held off a determined Wellsboro team to escape from Tioga County with a 68-58 girls’ basketball win Tuesday night.

“Wellsboro outplayed us, and especially out-shot us, over the final three quarters,” Falcon coach Brian Green conceded. “We were lucky to hang on.”

Juniors Jessica Wilson and Kristy Kamper led the way for Coudersport (6-0). Wilson scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Kamper had 15 points, six steals, five assists and six rebounds. Karli Duffee (8 points, two treys), Sabrina Hershey (8) and Kelly McVay (7) helped share the scoring load.

Results of the Falcons’ game at Johnsonburg Thursday night weren’t available by press time. They’ll be back in action Wednesday at 4:30 against Cowanesque Valley in the opening round of the Coudersport Holiday Tournament.
